October 11, 1937 – May 29, 2019
Martha Sue Landers passed away peacefully on May 29, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be held from 10-12:00 on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Highland Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow. A private burial will be held at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will her grandsons. Elkins Funeral Home, Florence is assisting the family.
Martha was born and raised in Central, Alabama to Wilma and James Harold Koonce. She graduated from Central High School in 1955 where she was crowned Homecoming Queen. During her first year at Florence State Teachers College, she was voted "Miss Friendly" as well as "Leo's Lovelist".
On May 10, 1957, "Mot" married John Devon Landers. They spent 54 years together and raised five children: Lisa Dianne Landers, Johnny Devon Landers, Jr. and wife Cindi, Lynda Landers Darby and husband Elton, Laurie Landers Habla and husband Jim, and Leslie Landers Howard and husband Bill; grandchildren: Lizabeth Ann Landers, Ronald Blake Flippo, Leigh Ellen Landers Melson and husband Kyle, John Wesley Landers, William Devon Landers, Elton Herbert Darby III, Elleson Elizabeth Darby, Jordan Landers Darby, Christopher James Habla, John Robert Habla, Leland Palmer Howard III, and Martha Elizabeth Howard; great-grandchildren: Lauren Cadence Licci, London Dianne Boedecker, and Nolan and Nash Landers; sister, Mary Ann Koonce Thompson and husband Doug, of Jackson, Tennessee.
Mot was a proud member of the "Sassy Saints" Sunday School at Highland Baptist Church, and loved serving as a volunteer with the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of the Shoals.
Mot was kind, loving, creative, funny, talented, open minded, and truly selfless. She always put others first. She was a completely devoted wife and mother, and her sweet smile and peaceful nature will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary of the Shoals, P.O. Box 728 Florence, Alabama 35631.
