Obituary

Mrs. Martha Evins Musgrove, (June 1, 1915-October 14, 2010) was born in Marion, Alabama, the only child of Julian Foster Evins and Florence Emma Jordan Evins. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Judson College in 1935 at the age of 19.Martha began her teaching career in Jasper, Alabama where she met her husband William Thomas "Barney" Musgrove. They were married on July 14, 1938. Martha taught Latin and English at Deshler High School, Coffee High School, Appleby Junior High School and Bradshaw High School. She was a 60 year member of the First United Methodist Church, Florence. She played violin in the Shoals Symphony and was a volunteer at Safeplace. Her special joys were literature, visiting with her many friends, and reading to her grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 18, 2010 from 10:00-10:45 a.m. in the Atrium of the First United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary with the Rev. Mike Pope officiating. Burial will be in the Florence Cemetery.
Mrs. Musgrove is survived by a daughter-in-law, Brynda Musgrove, Florence, a son Robert Foster Musgrove, Mableton, GA, a son John Larkin Musgrove, M.D. and wife Melanie, Florence, and a daughter Martha Jordan Musgrove Newberry and husband Mike, Franklin, NC; grandchildren Cecily Musgrove Wall and husband Allen, William Thomas Musgrove III and wife Suzanne, Foster Byars Musgrove and wife Debbie, John Larkin Musgrove, Jr., Melinda Ellis Musgrove, Camille Ellis Musgrove, Caroline Ware Ashe, Catherine Evins Ashe, Christina Meagan Newberry, Caroline Rebecca Newberry Parker, and Sarah Catherine Newberry; great-grandchildren Sims McCrory Musgrove, William Frederick Musgrove, Caitlin Sims Wall, Evins Alana Wall, Savannah Byars Musgrove, and Jackson Foster Musgrove. She will be missed by her loving cat, Catullus "Tully".
Mrs. Musgrove was preceded in death by husband William Thomas "Barney" Musgrove, Sr., son William Thomas Musgrove, Jr. and a daughter-in-law Jean Byars Musgrove.
Pallbearers will be John Musgrove, Jr., Byars Musgrove, Bill Musgrove, Allen Wall, Haig Wright, and Mac Musgrove. Honorary bearers will be Billy Cadenhead, Edward Tease, Robert Walker, Sam Esslinger, Jr., James Smith, Dick Jordan, Steve Eason and Braxton Ashe.
The family is grateful for all of Mrs. Musgrove''s friends including Marie Cunningham, Rachel Cadenhead, Monica Belew, Anna Blair, and Geraldine Evans.
The family offers special thanks to Dr. John Reike, Dr. Danny Martin, Dr. Edsel Holden, Dr. Felix Morris, Dr. Subir Paul, Dr. Rajesh Boorgu, Dr. Robert Webb, Dr. Therese Lango, Dr. Barbara Frazier, and Dr. Gilbert Melson, to the staff of 3rd West and CCU at ECM Hospital, and caregivers Lynn Pinckley, Cecily Wall, Alyce Dillard, Sheryl Ingle, Brenda Griggs, Pam Campbell and Rosa Duster as well as Mary Ragland and the other caregivers at Home Instead.
The family requests the omission of flowers and asks you to consider memorials to the First United Methodist Church, The Salvation Army, or the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.
