Martha Shelton Smith, 71, of Auburn died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at East Alabama Medical Center. A resident of Auburn for the last 47 years, she is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jack D. Smith of Auburn; son, Michael (Lynn) Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; mother, Hilda Shelton of Moulton; two granddaughters, Maggie and Claire Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Betty Sue Smith of Decatur and Jeanne Hurst of Hatton; brothers, the Rev. Jackie (Ben-Ann) Shelton of Muscle Shoals and Billy (Avonne) Shelton of Decatur. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Shelton; and brother-in-law, Walter Smith. Visitation was held yesterday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home in Opelika. Funeral services will be conducted today, Aug. 31, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Wren, with the Rev. Steve Agee officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens.
