Mrs. Martha Jean Elliott Williams, age 79, of Florence, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2008 at E.C.M. Hospital. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Florence. The Rev. Gary Formby will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home.
Jean was born in Franklin County, Alabama, the youngest of nine children. She received her degrees from the University of North Alabama and taught English at Bradshaw High School for twenty years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Williams.
Jean is survived by a daughter, Cathy Tackett and her husband Tommy, Madison, Alabama; a son, Phil Williams and his wife Candice, Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren, Andrew Elliott Williams and his wife Rachel, and Lee Steele Williams, all of Huntsville, Alabama; great-granddaughter, Emma Ramsey Williams; sister, Mable Carpenter, Tuscumbia, Alabama; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be John McKinney, Hon. George Carpenter, Hon. Hoyt Elliott, Tony Williams, Owen Peters, Jim Elliott, and Mark Beumer.
