Mrs. Mary A. Cavender, 67, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009. A time of visitation to remember her life will be held Saturday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cavender, a die-hard Alabama football fan, retired from Lockwood Green after several years. She then served as President of the Board at Sutton Place for ten years. She received an achievement award for working on the first manned orbital flight of the space shuttle Columbia.
She was a very talented artist, especially painting with watercolors. She was a very loving mother and best friend to her daughters and loved her step grandchildren and step great grandchildren and family very much. She is dearly missed by her family.
Survivors include daughters Debbie Jenkins and husband Dennis, Florence, and Stephanie Cavender and family friend David Luce, Huntsville; step-granddaughters Erin Jenkins, Decatur, and Paige Miller and husband Chris, Birmingham; step great-granddaughters Gabriel and Kyler; sisters Pat Doughty and husband Mel and Linda Jones and husband Jerry, all of Mayfield, Ky; several nieces and nephews.
