Mrs. May Blair Hinton, 95, departed this life on February 2, 2010 at Glenwood Healthcare.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 5, 2010 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel. The Reverend Charles Canterbury will preside. Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield, Alabama.
Mrs. Hinton was a long time member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College (UNA) and taught three years at Whitehead in Lauderdale County and thirty-three years at Brandon Elementary in Florence. Much of her retired life was spent in service to others and visiting the sick and shut-in. Her life of service was preparatory for eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May B. Hinton was a hero in every sense of the word.
May was born January 13, 1915 to John Walton and Henrietta Williams Blair of Center Star. Her husband, Melvin C. Hinton, and sisters, Virginia Watkins and Martha Nell Henley, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her brother John Blair and his devoted wife, Jean; son Reverend Melvin C. Hinton, Jr. and wife, Brenda, Merritt Island, FL; daughter, Martha Hinton Legg and husband, Paul, Norfolk, VA; grandson, Rob Hinton and wife Maureen, St. John''s Island, FL; three grand daughters, Daniele Lusk and husband Michael, of Antioch, TN, Melissa Brandmier and husband, Kenneth, of Reading, PA, and Melinda Hardin and husband Eric, of Richmond, VA; three great-grandchildren; one nephew and niece; one great niece and three great nephews; and one great-great niece and nephew.
A very special thanks is extended to the staff of Glenwood Healthcare Station B, to Dr. Robert Webb, and to her special friend, Connie Hopkins, of Florence.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Bailey, Robert Chard, Bobby Dolan, Larry Hamilton, Ronnie Harding, and Harry Wallace.
