Funeral for Methel U. Riggs, 84, of Mount Hope will be Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Old Town Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Allen Compton, Chaplain Brad Eades and Rev. Anthony Hicks officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Old Town Creek Church Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mrs. Riggs, who died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at her residence, was born July 14, 1924, in Colbert County to Tobe Lavert Utley and Ellen Roden Utley. She was a member of Old Town Creek Baptist Church for 53 years, where she was very active in missions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie William Riggs, her parents, and brother, Carl Alexander Utley. She is survived by one daughter, Jane Riggs Williams and husband, Roger; one son, Johnny Lavert Riggs; two grandsons, Michael Joshua Butler and wife, Jennifer, and Michael Jonathan Butler and wife, Chrissy; one step-grand-daughter, Meagan Williams Kirk and husband, Colt; three great-grandchildren, Erin Butler, Preslie Spradlin and Brooke Butler; caregivers, Martha Hood and Dorothy Robbins; and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers will be Michael Joshua Butler, Michael Jonathan Butler, Dexter Lovett, Kenneth Counts, Rodger Counts, Jeron Witt, Carl Utley and Heath Utley.
