Mildred Lanell Pennington Godsey age 81 of Florence, passed from this life to the glories of heaven on Monday January 14, 2013, after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Visitation will be Thursday evening January 17, from 6-8pm at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Services will be held by Bro. Bobby Collins on Friday January 18 at Elkins Funeral Home Chapel at 2pm. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
She leaves behind her family, Robert L. Godsey, beloved husband of 61 years and 3 loving children, Mrs. Graham Bonds (Becky) of Greensboro, Alabama, Mrs. Jeff Garrett (Pennye) of Florence, Alabama and Bob Godsey (Amanda) of Hartselle, Alabama. She adored her 7 grandchildren, Lennon Bonds, Phillip Garrett, Nathan Bonds, Daniel Garrett, Sloan Godsey, Olivia Godsey and Luke Godsey. She loved her three remaining sisters, Mrs. John (Bessie) McFerrin of Mantanchie, MS, Mrs. Evelyn Benton of Kenosha, WI, and Mrs. Hazel Vaughn of Nashville, TN., and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her niece and friend Mary Sue Herring and husband Billy.
Mildred followed her husband to many places to help him coach football teams where they raised their family together and met many friends they have kept in touch with through the years. She enjoyed knowing the Woodhams, the Moneys, the Barnes, the Hendrix, the Watts, and many others. She last worked at the Lauderdale Board of Education before retiring to travel and help with her grandchildren. Her strong will and love for her family will be missed by all who knew her.
Mildred was a member of Elgin Crossroads Primitive Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshiping and had many precious friends.
