Mildred Louise (Penny) Thorne November 23, 1932-August 17, 2012
Penny, 79, of Florence passed away August 17, 2012 after an extended illness. Her passion was taking care of her yard and flowers, her love that she showed so much was for her precious pets. She was a Baptist by faith. Visitation will be Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Elkins Funeral Home from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be Monday, August 20, 2012, at 11 AM in the chapel, with Bro. David Byrd officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband J. B. Thorne and her parents Lee Elton Walker and Ruth Lucille Walker. Mrs. Thorne is survived by sisters Jeannie L. Hammond and Linda L. Barkley (Bill); brother Bobby S. Walker (Rosalie); several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. Special memories from them are on Sunday''s all the neighbor kids would play football in her yard and the Easter egg hunts and who can forget going to the Lake House for cookouts and houseboat rides. Her special friend Frances Pettus will always hold her in her heart. Penny was a friend to all who knew her. Pallbearers will be Steven Bright, Lee Walker, Brent Barkley, David Barkley, Chance Barkley, and Gilbert Barga.
