Obituary

Millie L. Griffin Hanks, Decatur, AL departed this life on April 20, 2015.

Millie was born October 21, 1918 in Athens, AL to William A. and Minnie Pearl (Tatum) Griffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Grady B. Hanks, siblings Ida Griffin, Hattie Brown, Lillie Griffin, Mary Simmons, Alvin Griffin, Elizabeth Simmons, Ruby Cavendar, Woodrow Griffin, and Judy Watterson.

She is survived by three nieces: Signa Barksdale, Carolyn Dennis and Brenda Eden all of Athens, AL. Five nephews: Dewayne Griffin (Mt. Juliet, TN), David Griffin and Michael Griffin both of Athens, AL, Don Griffin (Monument, CO) and Butch Watterson (Sugar Land, TX) and special friend Bobby Johnson.

There will be a private graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Tuesday, April 28.

Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home is in charge of the service with nephews officiating.

Millie was a member of Grant Street church of Christ for the past 70 years.

She was one of the original employees of the Chemstrand Company beginning in March 1951. Prior to that time she had been employed with the Southeastern Metals Company where she handled salary and wage payrolls before they relocated to Birmingham, AL. Chemstrand Company changed names to Monsanto''s Textile Division and she became Salary Payroll Supervisor until re-organization and these duties where relocated to St. Louis. Then she served where she was needed until her retirement. Millie was the first woman to serve 20 years with the Chemstrand/Monsanto Company.
