IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Myra
Harscheid
October 10, 1940 – April 19, 2024
Myra Ellis Harscheid, age 83, died peacefully on April 19th, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 11:00 AM at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence, Alabama.
Myra is survived by her husband, Frank Harscheid; children, Holly Walker (Jim) and Glenn Harscheid (Jennifer); grandchildren, Meghan Walker, Houston Walker, Landon Harscheid, and Finley Harscheid. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Glenn and Jennye Rae Ellis.
Myra was born and raised in Ozark, Alabama, where she was the valedictorian of her high school class. Her family moved to Florence in 1959 and she attended Florence State College, where she was a majorette and an active member of the theater club. She later earned her Master of Science from UNC Chapel Hill and worked as a librarian at the University of North Alabama until her retirement.
She was a proud founding member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority at UNA, and remained active in Chapter activities for many years. She was a passionate season ticket holder for UNA Athletics and celebrated the big wins and national championships.
She was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she sang in the choir and was active in Cursillo.
Myra's Parkinson's diagnosis in the early 1990's was a shock to us all. She battled valiantly for decades to create a quality of life that allowed her to travel with Frank, experience beach trips with the family, and to watch and enjoy her children and grandchildren. Through all the medications, experimental medications, procedures, and yes, even brain surgery; she fought the good battle with a warrior's heart and gave so much love along the way. We take great pride in knowing that she's dancing with Jesus!
Shout out to Glenn's buddies who enjoyed Myra's pancakes. She absolutely adored you all!
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
