Born December 10, 1915, Nannie Flay Fletcher Greer, was 101 years old when she died August 22, 2017, at Glenwood Center, Florence, Alabama. She is survived by her sister Polly Criss of Spring, Texas; her daughter Jeanette McGee of Florence, Alabama; and her son Milton Greer of Germantown, Tennessee.
Known to her friends as Nan, she spent much of her adult life in Memphis, later moving to Coldwater, Mississippi. There, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Coldwater. God and family were Nan''s greatest joys in this life. She had four children, followed by 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; 19 great, great grandchildren; and 2 great, great, great grandchildren. There were countless others who called her "Grandma," "Aunt" or "Momma" and whom she loved and considered her own. We will never know all the lives she touched.
Nan loved to garden and was known for cooking huge family meals. At her house there was always room for one more person to spend the night; for one more plate at the table; for one more hug. There was never a shortage of the important things: good food, hospitality, love and grace.
All are welcome to come and celebrate Nan''s long, giving life, August 25, 2017, at Forest Hill South Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.; to be followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Nan will be laid to rest next to her husband, Varn Greer. The two were married almost 50 years before he died in 1982.
