Funeral services for Neal Douglas Norwood, 82, of Moulton, will be Friday, December 28, 2012, beginning at 2pm at Moulton First United Methodist Church. Rev. Eric Brown is officiating and Elliott''s Brown-Service Funeral Home will be directing the service. Burial will follow at Moulton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening December 27 at the church from 6 until 8pm.
Mr. Norwood passed away peacefully at home on Christmas Day surrounded by many loved ones. He was born July 29, 1930 in Moulton to Eugene Jackson Norwood and Ora Lee Hill Norwood. He graduated Lawrence County High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where, while stationed in Great Britain, he met his bride of 59 years. Neal was a community-minded individual, businessman, salesman and lifelong volunteer and council member to his church. He served on the Lawrence Medical Center Hospital Board for 20 years and served on the Joe Wheeler EMC Board of Directors for over 30 years, where he received the Area Rural Electrification Association''s Bill Nichols Outstanding Service Award in 2004. In addition to his membership to many civic organizations in the county over the years, he was one of the founding members of the Moulton Jaycees. His love of high school athletics led him to be part of over 40 years of sports broadcasts on several Moulton radio stations.
Survivors include his wife Sheila, son David Norwood (Vicki Morese), daughter Sandy Norwood Jump (David) of Moulton; grandsons IS3 Edward Norwood, Lemoore Naval Air Station, California, Myles Terry and Colin Terry, both of Moulton; step-grandson Jerrod Bradford of Mobile; sister Marlynn Rhyne and brother Bobby Norwood, also of Moulton; other step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many close friends and relatives.
Pallbearers will be Jerrod Bradford, Edward Norwood, Myles Terry, Colin Terry, Jason Norwood, Robert Norwood, Robert H. Rhyne III, Dr. Patrick Rhyne, Pete Wolverton and John Montgomery.
Memorial donations may be given to the Moulton First United Methodist Church Building Fund or the Lawrence County Public Library.
