Norris H. Herring, born March 10, 1935, in Phil Campbell, died October 14, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family.
His service will be Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Holy Church of Christ with Bro. Jimmy Fuller, Bro. Wallace Fuller and Bro. Charles Williams officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery in Bankhead Forest. Visitation will be tonight starting at 6 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dean Herring; his son, Edward (Helen) Herring of Mount Hope; daughter, Glenda Slayton of Moulton; grandson, Brooks Slayton of Huntsville, three granddaughters, Brandy Taylor of Decatur, Misty (Brian) Stricklin of Moulton and Jessica Herring of Tuscaloosa and two great-granddaughters of Decatur; three sisters, Mae Sweeney of Phil Campbell, Doris (Bernard) Burleson of Hamilton and Jessie Blalock of Phil Campbell; and several nieces and nephews.
Norris was a disabled veteran having served in the 3rd Armored Division, United States Army, in Germany.
Pallbearers will be Troy Hall, Jimmy Ray Naylor, Tony Hill, Kinnard Little, Cecil Ashley and Dennis Jackson
