Obituary

Obera Hunter Doss of Florence was born on June 20, 1916 and died at the age of 95 on April 5, 2012, under a beautiful double rainbow. She was a Christian and a member of the Church of Christ. Private visitation and graveside services for the family will be held on Monday, April 9th at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with Syd Fulford officiating. Obera''s life began in Double Springs, Al. She was the daughter of Charles Oliver (Ollie) Hunter, sheriff of Winston county, and Lorene (Tea) Williams, homemaker. Obera had an older sister, Dura Hunter Sisson (Jack) and an older brother, Oran Hunter (Mozelle). She graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. degree in Home Economics and served as a county extension agent in South Alabama for several years. Following the end of World War II, she married Dr. L.G. Doss, an Army captain and dentist. They made their home in Florence, AL and shared 57 years golfing, supporting the Auburn Tigers, the Atlanta Braves, and playing cards, until his death in 2001. Obera is survived by her sons: James Hunter Doss (Charlotte Tucker) of Marion, AL and Charles Edwin Doss (Linda Underwood) of Killen, AL, two granddaughters: Leah Hunter Doss of Birmingham, AL and Julian Rebekah Doss Morton (John Robert) of Washington, D.C., a grandson, Hunter Clyde Doss of Killen, AL and a great-granddaughter, Ella Sage Meuborne of Birmingham. Obera''s family would like to express special gratitude to dear friends Faye Wright, R.C. and Ann Underwood, Peggy and Doug Murphy and Betty Smith, her special friends and staff at Merrill Gardens, who filled her later years with love and joy, Dr. Ricky Irons, Dr. Robert Mann, Dr. John Young, and finally to Blake Edwards, Joycelyn Hale and the amazing staff at Hospice of Tennessee Valley.
