Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Byron Lloyd Gray, age 75, of Decatur, who departed this life on Sunday, February 9, 2025.

Born on September 24, 1949, in Oklahoma, Byron was a man of quiet strength, deep kindness, and a love for life's simple joys. His passion for music was a defining part of who he was—whether playing the drums, strumming his guitar, or simply enjoying a favorite song, music was the rhythm of his soul. His melodies will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.

Byron is survived by his beloved sister, Anathalee Gray Sandlin, and his brother, Randall Gray (Diane Gray). He is also lovingly remembered by his cherished nieces, Leigh Ellen Cauthren (Britt), Kristin Ann Spain (Bruce), and Heidi Anathalee Barger (Jeff). His love and legacy continue through his six grandnieces and nephews: Sandlin Graham (Zach), Ella Cauthen, Reid Cauthen, Gray Cauthen (Brittany), Avonlea Spain, and Noah Spain, as well as his seven great-grandnieces and nephews: Grady Graham, Murron Graham, Wyler Graham, Navy Grace Cauthen, Leo Cauthen, Max Turner, and Oliver Tidwell.

Though no formal services are planned at this time, Byron's family and friends will forever carry his memory, finding comfort in the music he loved and the warmth he shared.

Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Byron's life was a melody—one of love, laughter, and harmony. Though the song may have ended, its tune will never fade.
