Daniel Morris Jones, age 82, passed away at Elite Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on December 25, 2024.

Dan was born May 28, 1942, in Weatherford, OK to Samuel Jones and Eileen (Goodson) Jones. He was the oldest of their 4 children and their only son.

As a young man, Dan worked the wheat harvest in Oklahoma and Kansas and even earned his pilot's license for crop dusting. Dan attended Northwest Missouri State University where he received a degree in business and a minor in English. At the age of 24, he moved to Detroit, MI (where his father was working with Ford Motor Company as a manager in the heavy truck division) to work for Ford Motor Company in the district sales office in Wixom, MI.

Dan met his wife, Janet (Patton) Jones, on a blind, double date with their friends who introduced them, Jake and Lynn Seidelman. It was a snowy February night and the movie they went to was "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner". They married in 1969 and had 2 daughters, Danette, born in 1973 and Janelle, born in 1974.

After working for Ford Motor Company for 12 years, Dan moved his family to Atlanta, GA to take a position as heavy truck sales manager at Capital Ford Truck Sales. In 1984, Dan moved his family again, to Florence, AL to take a position as General Manager at Anderson Ford which later became Dan Jones Ford.

Dan was an exceptional woodworker, a hobby he learned from and enjoyed doing with his dad. He had a large collection of woodworking tools in his "shop" and created many heirlooms for our family over the years.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Morris Jones and Eileen (Goodson) Jones. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Lee (Patton) Jones; as well as his daughters, Danette (John Paul) Springer of Green Hill, AL and Janelle (Justin) Harrison of Vestavia Hills, AL. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Elijah Daniel Springer, Piper Mae Springer, Willow Eileen Harrison and Rhett Ryles Harrison; three sisters, Loretta F. Jones of Florence, AL, Deborah K. Jones of Minneapolis, MN, and Jeanette G. Horton of Florence, AL; two sisters-in-law, Jane White of Clinton Township, MI and Donna Lovett of Minneapolis, MN; nephew, Samuel (Sarah) Horton and niece, Jennifer Horton, both of Florence, AL.

Please join us to celebrate his life at Elkins Funeral home in Florence, AL on Monday, January 6th. A Funeral service for Dan will be held at 2pm. Visitation will be from 1pm - 2pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org.
