There are no words to describe how special a person Maurice was. If you met him you knew that. He loved his family with his whole heart and he was always your biggest supporter no matter what you were trying to accomplish. He was so kind and caring to anyone he ever met. He always had a story to tell to anyone who would listen and we all loved his stories about his life experiences.
Maurice was born in Florence, Alabama. He was a graduate of Coffee High School where he played football and moved to Washington DC where he graduated college from American University. He also served in the National Guard. He lived in DC and New York while he worked as an actor until 1979 at which time he moved back to Florence, Alabama. While working at Florence Utilities he met his wife and they were married in 1982. He then became a wonderful husband, father, grandfather (papa), and had the family he always desired. After his retirement from Florence Utilities, he achieved a lifetime dream when he and Sue visited Ireland. Maurice loved life and his family. He also was a play director, photographer, musician and substitute teacher. He lived his life to the fullest.
Maurice was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church Center Star. We are heartbroken and our lives will forever be changed without him being with us, but we know he is in heaven and we lean on the promises that God gives us that we will be together again someday. We cannot help but wonder if Papa is sitting by the golden streets telling his stories!
We want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has helped the family during this difficult time with phone calls, texts, visits, food, and prayers. Maurice was a dialysis patient for 4 years, so we want to say a very special thank you to Fresenius Dialysis's staff in Florence, Alabama who took excellent care of him.
