March 23, 1930 – October 9, 2024
Mrs. Marjorie Woods Akers, age 94 of Florence, passed away peacefully at Lauderdale Christian Care Center on Wednesday October 9, 2024. Services will be held at St. Bartolomew's Episcopal Church on Monday, October 14,2024 beginning at 1:30pm. A reception visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12pm. Burial will be held at Greenview Cemetery immediately following the service.
Mrs. Akers loved to volunteer and held many leadership roles in the organizations she was a part of, as well as a recipient of many community service awards throughout her life. She was a founding member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (ELCA) and Florence Mother Singers, a member of Church Women United, Florence Music Study Club, Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts, and was on the board for the Zodiac Theater. She was also an original Safeplace volunteer.
Mrs. Akers is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Akers Jr.; parents, Harvey and Marjorie McDonald Woods; daughter, Lillian (Donnie) Akers; son, Jim Akers; sister, Mary Alice Davis; and brother, William Woods. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lynn Jackson (Greg); son, Peter Akers III (Rhonda); grandchildren, Stacey McFall (Daniel), Jim Steele (Lesley), Phillip Steele (Mary Bishop), Piper Akers, Rylee Akers, Luke Akers, Amelia Akers (Dan), Rachael Davenport (Andrew), Aubrie McFall, and Kaylie McFall; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Drew (Grace), Annsley, Otto, Emmet, Crewe, and Baby Girl M.C.; and several nieces and nephews of the Davis clan.
Pallbearers for the service will be Jim Steele, Phillip Steele, Luke Akers, Bradley Tapscott, Drew Tapscott, Tom Ledbetter, and Patrick Hood. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Davis family and John Hicks.
The family would like to extend their extreme gratitude to the amazing staff of Lauderdale Christian Care Center for the exceptional care they gave to their mother during her time with them.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Kennedy-Douglass Center, Help Center or the Shoals Symphony Orchestra.
