In Loving Memory of Michael Wayne King

April 16, 1950 - April 23, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Wayne King, who departed this life on April 23, 2025 at the age of 75. Born on April 16, 1950, he was the beloved son of Doris and Owen King.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Owen King; and his beloved son, Richard King.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Vera King, whom he married in 1986. He leaves behind his four loving children, Chris King, David Staup, Jessica Staup and Tammy Tidwell. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren, Lilliana Epler, Johnny Reed, Zach Tidwell, and Even Tidwell. He is also survived by his two sisters, Patsy Johnson and Wanda Brewer; his brother, Mark Owen; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Michael proudly served his Country with honor and dedication in the United States Air Force. He completed two tours in Vietnam and went on to retire in 1990 following a distinguished career marked by dedication, courage and sacrifice.

In his free time Michael found joy in the simple things: spending time with his family and grandchildren, hunting, fishing and caring for his collection of firearms. He will be remembered for his strength, his devotion to family, and the quiet pride he took in a life well-lived.

A memorial service will be held in honor of Michael's military service on May 24, 2025.  The location will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to either Vera King or the Elkins Funeral Home in Florence, AL.
