Mildred Wooten Phillips
Mildred Wooten Phillips, age 95, of Decatur, AL, passed away Saturday, November 16th at Riverside, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Luther William Wooten, of Montevallo, AL. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edwin Jeter Phillips; sister, Mrs. Nell Goodgame, and brother, the Honorable George Wooten.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Phillips (Jeanne) of Huntsville and Fred Phillips (Mary) of Decatur and daughter, Kay Griffin (Sam) of Tryon, NC. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Scott Griffin, Richard Griffin, Chris Phillips, Julie Phillips and Maddie Phillips. Great grandchildren, John and Millie Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was a graduate of the University of Montevallowhere she received a B.S. in History. She was the recipient of the Volunteer Center of Morgan County's Lifetime Achievement Honor for her work with the Decatur Public Library. She was also president of the Wheeler Basin Regional Library, andappointed to three terms as a member of the Alabama Public Library Service Board. She served or presided over the Decatur Junior Service League, Morgan-Lawrance County Medical Auxiliary, Decatur Culture Club, Decatur Downtown Revitalization Effort Board Decatur, and the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of Decatur First Baptist Church for fifty years where she taught Sunday school for over forty years and served on a number of church boards and committees.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Riverside, Decatur Home Care and Hospice of the Valley for the tender loving care they gave our mother.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Decatur with Blake Kersey officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Decatur City Cemetary.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in her memory to the Friends of the Decatur Library, Hospice of the Valley, or Decatur First Baptist Church.
