Cracraft
February 9, 1941 – May 10, 2025
Morris Wayne Cracraft passed away on May 10,2025, at Home. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jordan Hairston Cracraft, and his sons Jonathan Cracraft, of Davenport, lowa; and Jared (Lori) Cracraft of Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Other survivors include his grandchildren, William, Matthew and Beau Wilder. His sister, Diane Green and brother, Bart Cracraft. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Cracraft and Ann Marie Moran.
Morris was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on February 6,1941. A graduate of St. Albans High School, Morris received both Bachelors and Masters degrees from Murray State University and an EdS degree from The University of North Alabama. Morris served in the United States Navy and Fleet Marine.
Morris met Jordan while they both taught at Bradshaw high school, were set up by their students to chaperone a dance and married on December 19, 1970. He attended First Presbyterian Church, Florence, where he served as an elder, deacon, treasurer and sang in the choir. He supported the Zodiac Playhouse as a performer, patron and board member.
He served on numerous boards for the city of Florence.
An avid woodworker, Morris taught high school shop class in his first job out of the Navy. He loved repairing furniture and making wooden toys, puzzles and games for children of all ages.
As a friend said, "He was a big man with a big heart and he has left a big hole in our universe."
Visitation will be Thursday May 22nd at the Cracraft residence. A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Florence on May 23'd at 2pm with the Rev. Taylor Todd officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the First Presbyterian Church and Kennedy -Douglass Center for the Arts.
