March 4, 1944 – April 14, 2023
United States Army Colonel (RET) Ray Joe Cagle, 79, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023 at his home in Rogersville. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 16th from 6 pm to 9 pm. Services will be held on Monday, April 17th at 12:30 pm at the Elkins East Chapel in Killen. Bobby Graham will officiate.
After graduating from Haleyville High School in 1962, Col. Cagle joined the Army National Guard in 1964 and served for 40 years. During this time, he served with the 115th signal battalion, the 142nd signal brigade, and as commanding officer of the 279th signal battalion. In civilian life, Mr. Cagle and his father-in-law James owned and operated Rogersville Motors for many years. After retirement, Mr. Cagle worked as a recruiter for the Alabama Career Center. He was also a member of West Rogersville Church of Christ.
Mr. Cagle is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Cathy Cagle; and parents, James L. and Lela J. Cagle. He is survived by his children, Christopher Cagle and Beth Fields (Keith); grandchildren, Haley Hunter (Brandon), Aubrey Hammond (Parker), Sarah Cagle, and Ryan Cagle; great-grandchild, Jaxon Fields; and sister, Nelda Gaines.
Pallbearers will be Chris Cagle, Ryan Cagle, Junior Corum, Brandon Hunter, Parker Hammond, and Aubra Lowman.
