Mrs. Patsy Ruth Wheeler Sledge, of Florence, passed away at her home Monday, October 20, 2008.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Elkins Funeral Home with Frank Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until service time.
Mrs. Sledge was a member of the Cross Point Church of Christ and worked for many years at the City of Florence Building Department. She retired in 1982 as Office Manager. She enjoyed bridge, golf, sewing and flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wylie Jackson Wheeler and Dedie House Wheeler; brothers, Edgar, George and Bobby Wheeler; sister, Retta Dormieny; and a grandson, Nathaniel Grant Sledge.
Mrs. Sledge is survived by her husband of 65 years, James Sterling Sledge; children James Sterling Sledge III and wife Serileiene, Killen, Michael Lee Sledge and wife Vicki, Florence, Lisa D. Sledge, Florence, and John Leslie Sledge and wife Shelia, Florence; grandchildren, James Sterling Sledge, IV, Kevin Sledge, Heath Sledge, Tracy Lee Sledge, Shannon Sledge Clemmons, Randal Aldridge, Leslie Sledge, and Sarah Beth Sledge; great-grandchildren, Sterling, Holly, Courtney, Luke, Kyra and Edyn Sledge, and Katie Brooke Clemmons; great-great grandchild, Cadence Sledge; sisters Girlie Berry and Emogene Baggett; brother, Neil Wheeler, each of Okeechobee, Florida.
Pallbearers will be James Sterling Sledge, Kevin Sledge, Heath Sledge, Tracy Sledge, Luke Sledge, and Eric Clemmons. Honoreary pallbearers will be Chris Burns, Randall Aldridge, George McFall, and Gary Stephens.
