Mrs. Rachel Herrin Johnson Hollis, 87, of Florence, passed away peacefully at Mitchell-Hollingsworth on Thursday, September 17, 2009.
Mrs. Hollis was born and raised in West Point, Tennessee. She and her husband, Coleman, moved their family to Florence in 1949 in order to attend Florence State Teachers College. She was an active business person while working in Downtown Florence with the General Adjustment Bureau in the 1950''s, 1960''s, 1970''s and early 1980''s. Her husband died in 1994. Mrs. Hollis was unconditional in her commitment as a mother and was especially proud of her family. She was a lifetime quilter and enjoyed her membership in the Batting Brigade Quilt Guild of the Shoals and the YMCA.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 1:00 P.M. in the Elkins Funeral Home Chapel. Bob Hendren will officiate. Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery, West Point, Tennessee. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from noon until service time.
Mrs. Hollis is survived by sons Frazier Hollis and wife Patti, Atlanta, Georgia, and Joe Hollis and wife Carole, Florence; grandchildren Emily Herrin Hollis Tate and husband Steve, Atlanta, Joseph Hollis, Jr. and wife Liz, Birmingham, William Frazier Hollis, Atlanta, and Coleman L. Hollis, Florence; great-grandchildren Steven Tilghman Tate and Hollis Hill Tate; brother Charles Lee Johnson and wife Dolores, Huntsville.
Pallbeaers will be Todd Westbrook, Steve Tate, Joseph Hollis, Will Hollis, Cole Hollis, Fred Kelly and Bob Kelly.
