A celebration of James Randall "Randy" Montgomery's life will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 2:00pm at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home in Decatur. Visitation will be Monday, December 1, 2014 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Randy was born in Decatur to Carl and Beatrice Montgomery. A graduate of Austin High School, Randy was a master craftsman by trade, building beautiful cabinets and furniture for the family and so many others in the Decatur area over his lifetime. He was the keeper of the family history, and for many years, was the family photographer documenting the childhoods of his many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Randy was also the unofficial caretaker of any old family cemetery he came across in the surrounding area. It mattered not whether they were his ancestors as he felt it was his mission to make sure the proper respect was shown to those who passed before him. As most who knew him will attest, Randy was the teller of many tall tales and enjoyed making his regular rounds visiting with friends sharing his tales. He was always seen wearing Alabama football shirts and considered Bear Bryant a member of the family. Not many things brought Randy more joy than spending time with Shane and Tonya and being Pawpaw to his grandkids.

He is survived by his family, Shane and Tonya Skipworth; Grandchildren Chris, Sonya and Breanna; Brothers Bob Montgomery of Decatur and Ronnie (Bonita) Montgomery of Hartselle; Sisters Janice Bowman of Columbia, SC and Linda McCarver of Decatur; Nieces and Nephews Carol (steve) Wyndham of Lexington, SC, Diana (Victor) Lopez of Columbia, SC, Kim (Mike) Vickery of Athens, Ellen (Mitch) Hayhurst of Chapin, SC, Clint (Juan Carlos) Montgomery of Atlanta, GA, Kathy (William) Herman of Lexington, SC, Angie (David) Wall and Jenny Spain of Decatur and Carly Montgomery of Hartselle. Great Nieces and Nephews Chase and Ben Vickery, Andie and Austin Wall, Ryan and Brandi Chmielewski, Brittany (David Soper) Hayhurst, Blair Hayhurst, Elizabeth, Kathryn, and Jonathan Wyndham, Riley Herman, Landon Dye, Peyton Maroney and McKenzie Soper. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Carl and Beatrice Montgomery of Decatur, Nephew Matthew Spain, Sister-in-law Judi Montgomery and Brother-in-law J.D. McCarver, all of Decatur and Brother-in-law Bill Bowman of Columbia, SC, a special Aunt and Uncle, Jack and Mildred Waldrop of Moulton and numerous other Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He will be missed by his loving family and so many dear friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Skipworth, Paul Blaxton, Lyn Blankenship, Kalob Gammell, Danny Green and Randy Howard.
