Obituary

Raymond Currey, Jr. 87, of Florence, passed away Friday, October 30, 2009 at his home following a lengthy illness.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the First Baptist Church, Florence on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. The Rev. Kevin Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Ray was a Seabee, serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a 65 year member of the IBEW and worked 32 years at Reynolds Metals Co. He had been a member of the Florence Lions Club.
He was a loving, caring husband, father and grandfather and was a 71 year member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was an original volunteer at the Help Center and showed his concern for others by giving his time there for 25 years.
Ray is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wista Worley Currey; children, Jeff Currey and wife Terre, Birmingham and Jan Woods and husband David, Florence; grandchildren Mave Duke and husband Jamie, Erin Lough and Russell Lough; sisters, Frances Parker, Louisville, KY and Rooney Weaver, Huntsville.
Pallbearers will be Pratt Smith, Arnold Hall, Glenn Austin, Harry Austin, Brian Austin and Billy Darby.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the First Baptist Church or the Help Center.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Webb, Hospice of the Shoals, Dr. Lyman Mitchell and Milner-Rushing Drugs.
