Mr. Raymond Horton, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Annex.
The family will receive friends at Elkins Funeral Home Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with the graveside funeral service, with military honors, following at 1:00 p.m. at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Rev. Donnie McDaniel will officiate.
Raymond was born August 27, 1920 in Wayne County, TN. He left the farm life in 1943 to join the United States Army. He saw combat in Northern France while serving in Company E, 2nd Infantry. He earned the WW II Victory medal, the American Service medal and the Good Conduct medal. In 1945 he married his square dancing sweetheart, Catherine Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine in 2002, his father Luther Horton, and mother Leona Horton Henson, and brothers Leland Horton and Howard Horton.
He is survived by his son Ken Horton and wife Pam, Iron City, TN; daughter Louise Davis Evans and husband John, Oneonta, AL; grandchildren Wade Horton and wife Kati, Hoover, AL, Chris Horton, Florence, Stacy Ragsdale and husband Jack, Oneonta, AL and Scott Evans and wife Carrie, Oneonta, AL. The grandchildren gave him six great-grandchildren. His sisters, Lucille Barkley and Lillian Montgomery live in Lutts, TN. His brother Billy Horton and wife Yvonne live in Collinwood, TN and his brother Otha Horton and wife Betty live in Cypress Inn, TN.
Daddy Raymond will be remembered for his gentleness, sense of humor, and for his love of his family.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
