Regina B. Stephens

Decatur

Regina Bush Stephens was born November 7, 1917, in Clayton to John Luther Bush and Bertha Bowden Bush. She died on January 16, 2014, at Riverside Senior Living.

Funeral arrangements are Wednesday, January 22, 2014, with a private family burial followed by 11 a.m. visitation and noon memorial service at Central United Methodist, Decatur, with the Rev. Gary Formby and the Rev. Harold Fanning officiating.

Mrs. Stephens attended Clayton High School and Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery. Prior to moving to Decatur in 1988, she was an active member of the community of Louisville, and the Methodist church. After moving to Decatur, she was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women and the Builders Sunday school class. She was a woman of many talents and a blessing to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Fred N. Stephens Jr., and will be buried on the same day as he, one year later, her parents, a brother, Emmett Bush and a sister, Dorothy Bush.

She is survived by her children, Sara Alice Stephens Godwin (George) of Decatur, Lucille Stephens Hoyt of Auburn, Frederick Norman Stephens (Gloria) of Decatur; her grandchildren, Dr. George H. Godwin III (Carol), John S. Godwin (Amy), Susan Godwin Thompson (Chuck), all of Decatur, Dr. Norman H. Godwin (Mary Ann) of Auburn, Dr. Trey Hoyt (Dawn) of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Rebecca Hoyt Johnston of Auburn, Bob Hoyt (Deana) of Waycross, Georgia, Katie Stephens Hames (Chris) of Brentwood, Tennessee, Kirk Stephens (Jennifer) of Cumming, Georgia, and 27 great-grandchildren, Bo, Caroline and Lee Godwin, Ginny Godwin Meadows (Bradley), Shelton and Max Godwin, Brandon Thompson, Harrison, Sara Caitlin, Clay and Ellis Godwin, Parker, Anna, Baker and Garrett Hoyt, Emma Katherine Thompson, Ivy Jacobs, Spencer and Thomas Hoyt, Jack, Lucy, Mattie Alice, Frank and Edith Hames, Lawson, Gage and Barrett Stephens.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the choir fund at Central United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice .
