Graveside service for Reneau Pearson Almon, 74, of Montgomery, Alabama, formerly of Moulton, will be Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 3:30 PM at Moulton Memory Gardens, with Elliott Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Judge Almon, who passed away April 30, 2012 at Brookwood Medical Center was born July 8, 1937 to Nathaniel and Mary Almon. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Nathaniel Lee Almon. He is survived by his wife, Debbie P. Almon, and three sons, Jonathan Almon of Birmingham, Jason Almon of Montgomery, and Tommy Preer of Montgomery; brother, Robert (Marion) Almon, nephew Robert (Rehee) Almon, Jr. and niece Julie (Carl) Jamison all of Tuscaloosa. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and the Samford University Cumberland School of Law; served in the U. S. army and the Alabama National Guard; later worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration before receiving his law degree; in 1966 was appointed Judge, 36th Judicial Circuit and later elected to a full term; in 1969, he was appointed to the Alabama Court of Appeals (name later changed to the Court of Criminal Appeals), and in 1970 was elected to that position; and in 1974 was elected to serve as an Associate Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court, serving in that capacity until his retirement in 1999.
