R.G. Darby, 72, died Monday, September 8, 2014. A memorial celebration will be held Friday, September 12 at 1:00 pm at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club with reception to follow.

Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and J.C. Darby. He leaves his wife, Deborah; son Cliff and wife, Amy, grandsons Sam and Will; daughter Elizabeth Darby; daughter Elizabeth Sloan and husband, Blake, and grandchildren Price, Palmer and Warner; brother Jimmy Darby and wife, Betty; sisters JoAnn Frazier and Suzy Darby; and beloved dog, Sadie.

Born and raised in Florence, R.G. was a 1960 graduate of Coffee High School. After graduation, he moved to Columbia, Tennessee to manage the Southern Sash store. He then moved to Birmingham, Alabama to manage the store there. He returned to the Shoals area in 1972 to run all Southern Sash retail divisions. In 1983, R.G. founded Darby Doors, Inc. and served as president until 1997. During that time, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Florence, the Home Builders Association of the Muscle Shoals Area and served on the Compass Bank Board of Directors. After turning over the family business to his son, Cliff, R.G. retired to Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida. An avid golfer, he was also a longtime member of Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club. R.G. spent his retirement years boating and traveling with his wife and enjoying his five grandchildren.
