Richard Edwin Hargett, of Florence, passed away on November 6, 2015 after a sudden illness.

Visitation will be Monday, November 9, 2015, at Wesley''s Chapel United Methodist Church, Central, Alabama, from 12-2 PM. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM with Rev. William H. (Bill) Smith and Rev. Jerry Hastings officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Y. Hargett and father, Charles T. Hargett of Florence; grandparents, Annie Bert and Emmett Young and Abbie and Louie Hargett.

He is survived by his sister, Melinda Hargett; aunts, Lena F. Morgan, Mildred Marks, and Ada Ruth Marks; many cousins, a host of friends, and his three four legged fur kids, Sammy, Susie, and Gigi.

Richard graduated from Rutherford High School in Panama City Florida, in 1973. He was a member of their ROTC program, and joined the U.S. Army Infantry immediately upon graduation. He served in Lich, Germany for 4 years. He returned home to Florence, where he attended the University of North Alabama, joined Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting.

Richard re-enlisted in the Army in 1984, and served during Operation Desert Storm, as a heavy equipment maintenance specialist. After leaving active duty, he joined Alabama National Guard 115th Signal Battalion, and served in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was currently employed by Young Welding.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
