Richard Lamar Harris , 70, went to his heavenly home on September 18, 2020. A celebration of his life will be officiated by Rev. Chad Hess at Woodmont Baptist Church in Florence, AL at 11:00 am Saturday September 26, 2020, with a brief visitation starting at 10:00.

He is the son of the late Warren and Maxine Harris. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Beverly Smith Harris; daughter Holly, granddaughter Morgan Biddy and grandson Harris Biddy of Florence, AL; Sister Ellen LaBate (Eric) and Brother Rob Harris (Brenda); as well as multiple beloved nieces and nephews.

He was born on March 25, 1950 in Birmingham, AL. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, AL. He attended the University of Alabama and was a lifelong Tide football fan. He retired from the Gates Corporation as a Vice President in 2009 and was honored to receive the prestigious Charles Gates award earlier in his career. As a follower of Christhe served in multiple churches as a Sunday School teacher, Chairman of Deacons, Chairman of Personnel Committee and Prayer Ministry Coordinator. He was dedicated to supporting pastors and their wives in ministry. He enjoyed reading, playing golf, fishing, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

The family wants to thank everyone for their love and prayers during this time. Special thanks to the ministers and members of Woodmont Baptist Church during these difficult days. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Woodmont Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
