Ricky Howard Jones, 60, of Florence, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at ECM Hospital.
A service to celebrate his life will be Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elkins Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Jason Davis will officiate. A time of visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and also following the service.
Ricky was the son of Bill and Frances Jones and while his parents served as missionaries, spent some years in South Texas in the Rio Grande Valley. He was a 1969 graduate of Coffee High School. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Tarrant County Sheriff''s Department in Ft. Worth, Texas.
He was a member of Highland Baptist Church and was an avid history buff, enjoyed antiques and collecting coins. He was a kind and generous man, a good husband, father and grandfather.
Ricky is survived by his wife of 35 years Gwyn Jones; a daughter Lisa Elkins and husband Andy of Florence; a son Robert Jones of Florence; grandchildren Autumn, William, and Aleah Elkins; his mother Frances Jones of Florence; sisters Janice Jackson of Florence, Regina Lawson and husband Darryl of Florence, Rebecca Denson and husband Kenneth of Muscle Shoals, Debbie Hooper and husband Dennis of Cherokee; a brother Stephen Jones and wife Patricia of Greensboro, NC; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Association.
