Graveside service for Robert E. Harris, 87, of Decatur, will be Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Mr. Larry Little officiating and Ridout's Brown Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at Ridout's Brown Service Funeral home from 10 a.m until the service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
Mr. Harris, who died on Saturday, April 6, 2013, was born on November 25, 1925, in Hartsville, Tennessee to the late Homer Bragg and Mary Louise Yearwood Harris. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved sister Julia.
He was raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. He was a Veteran of World War II, and served in the Air Corps. He was a Teacher in Ducktown, Tennessee, and in Corinth, Mississippi. He left teaching to move from Mississippi to work for Monsanto, where he was a Chief Draftsman.
Mr. Harris loved the Lord, His Word, and his church. He went on a missionary trip to Sierra Leone, West Africa, for his church. He was a long time Elder of Grant Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Lou Harris; two sons, Robert Edward Harris Jr. (Ingrid) and John Stephen Harris (Lou Anne); one daugher, Helen Harris Wagner (Gary); one granddaughter, Kathryn Harris of Gainesville Florida; and one grandson, John Stephen Harris Jr., of Florence.
