IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Thomas
James, Sr.
March 22, 1937 – January 4, 2026
Robert Thomas "Bobby" James, Sr., 88, of Rogersville, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his home surrounded by family.
Bobby enjoyed life, and he enjoyed being around his family even more. He shared 66 years of marriage with his wife, June, and nothing made him happier than being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. A faithful follower of Christ, Bobby taught Sunday school
and sang in the church choir much of his life. He lived his faith quietly but deeply. Bobby was a man of simple pleasures. He could spend hours fishing or camping, picking blackberries, gardening, riding his tractor, piddling in his building fixing whatever needed it, or listening to classic country and gospel music. He loved to play cards and could fry fish better than anyone. Everyone who knew Bobby remembers his storytelling. He had a story or a joke for every occasion, and with his deep, unmistakable voice, he could bring any story to life.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas James and Sarah Louise James, and his siblings, Greta James Richardson, Charles James, and Jimmy James.
He is survived by his wife, June James; his children, Kim Cochran (Barry) and Rob James (Joy); grandchildren, Ben Cochran, Michelle Allen (Riley), David Cochran, and Julianne Borne (Zach); and one cherished great-grandchild, Merit James Borne. He is also survived by his siblings, E.W. James, Larry James (Kathy), Gary James, Melba Waldrep (Dexter), Debby Keenum (Danny), and Toby James, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel, with the funeral following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Harvey Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben Cochran, David Cochran, Riley Allen, Zach Borne, David Ezekiel, and Petey Grisham.
The family thanks Stevan Saucer and Rita Bates for their exceptional, loving care, and Gentiva Hospice for their support during this time.
Bobby will be missed more than words can say. His laughter, his stories, and his love of people left a mark on everyone he met. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him, and he will be remembered with love and a smile for years to come.
