Memorial service for Rocky McCarthy, 66, of Decatur will be Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with Roger Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Mr. McCarthy, who died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Battle Creek, Mich., to Melvin J. McCarthy and Mary Mladenhoff McCarthy. He served in Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Germany in military intelligence and retired in Fort Benning, Ga., in 1981 after 21 years of service. After retiring, he worked at Southern Water for several years and various security jobs, including Solutia. Rocky enjoyed his work, his dogs, camping and playing computer games. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nancy Davenport McCarthy; his mother, Mary McCarthy of Battle Creek; daughter, Stacey McCarthy Scoggins (Michael), and stepgranddaughter, Abby Scoggins, all of Rome, Ga.; and a cousin, Susan Mladenoff of Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602.
