Roy Charles Austin Sr., age 88, of Decatur, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Mr. Austin was born Mar. 8, 1929, in Decatur to John Brock Austin and Olean Sparkman. He was married in 1948 in Iuka, Mississippi to Ms. Frances Jeanette White. Mr. Austin retired from the Army after 23 years of service, including tours in France, Korea, and Viet Nam (twice), and began a successful career in business and real estate in Decatur. Mr. Austin loved to bowl, play ping pong, and
volleyball. He was active in Decatur Rec Center for many years.

Mr. Austin is survived by wife, Jeanette Austin, of Decatur; children, Tommy Austin and spouse Glenda, of Guntersville and Mike Austin, of Decatur; grandchildren, Skyler Austin, of Huntsville, Wade Austin and spouse, Kate Watts Austin, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Casey Austin and
Lindsey and John Holemon and their daughter, Ellie Kathryn, of Brookwood, Alabama; and siblings, John Austin, of Decatur.

Mr. Austin was preceded in death by son, Roy Charles Austin Jr.; granddaughter, Christy Austin; and sister, Bobbie Morris.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 at Ridout''s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Sellers officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
