Roy Henson, age 62, of Rogersville, passed away January 9, 2008 at Athens Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Henson, will be Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home. Bro. Chuck Worley will officiate. Burial will follow in Weaver Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Roy was a member of Rogersville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Alabama Football and spending time with his family.
Mr. Henson served in the Air Force from 67-71, he was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He served in Iraq from December 7, 2003 to March 29, 2005. He retired from the Army National Guard, Signal Battalion 115th, Company A, after 26 years, as Sergeant First Class, in June of 2006.
He was with the Fraternal Order of Police, UGSOA, Disabled Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge of Florence Lodge #14, American Legion Post 11. He was with the Lauderdale County Sheriffs Dept. from September of 1980 to March of 1995. He was with the Rogersville Police Department, July 1986 - Oct 2000. He served as Police Chief March 95 - Oct. 2000. Roy was with Pinkerton Government Services as a Security Officer at Browns Ferry since October 2000.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Earnest Henson and Martha Jane Liles Henson; father-in-law, Rance Lawson, Jr.
Roy is survived by his wife, Diana Lawson Henson; sons, Shawn T. Henson, Randy Henson (Eve), David Henson (Lisa); daughter, Cristy Haraway; grandchild, Devan Henson; brother, Bennett Liles (Mattie), sister, Joyce Harris (Paul); mother-in-law, Sarah Lawson; nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
