Mrs. Ruby Delle Young Sandock, 82, of Florence passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2014 after an extended illness. A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Sandock''s life will take place at 10:00 am on Monday at Elkins Funeral Home Chapel with David Weiss, Marty Abroms, David Ruslow, Bill Moede and J.C. Manning officiating. Pallbearers will be J.C. Manning, Donny Young, David Gray, David Weiss, Larry Ayers, and Kent Woods. Honorary pallbearers are Alver Hancock, Dwight Cox and Kenneth Lovelace. Interment will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Garden.
Ruby was born on November 11, 1931 in Florence, Alabama to William M. Young and Clura M. Moore Young. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam M. Sandock, and husband, Wayne S. Roth; brother, Eugene Young; and sister, Jewell Chowning.
Ruby moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1952 where she was employed for 12 years as Manager/Trainer with Spiegel Mail Order and a fashion model for Robertson Department Store and Leonard''s New York Furs. Later she became part owner of Sandock Furniture and Carpet. In 1958, Ruby became owner of Ruby''s Heritage Jewelry and Collectables. She sold the store in 1989 and returned to Florence.
Ruby lived a wonderful life and had the opportunity to do extensive travel and fell in love with Europe. Ruby as also a big fan of country music and had the pleasure of spending time with George Hays, the solemn old judge of the Grand Ole Opry, as well as Hank Williams, Ray Price, Goldie Hill, and Carl Smith.
Survivors include her sister, Shirley A. Richards of Florence; brother, James R. Young of Florence; special niece, Mary Young of Florence; special friends Kim Gray of Florence, J.C. Manning of Muscle Shoals; step-sons, Daniel R. Sandock of Los Angeles, California, Louis Sandock of South Bend, Indiana, David Roth and Steve Roth of Elkhart, Indiana; three step-grandchildren, Denna Abraham, Jake Sandock and Kevin Sandock; 12 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Special caregivers were Paula Wood, Teresa Peters and Sherri Glover.
