Samuel C. Baker, 85, of Florence passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at his home. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Elkins Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Randy Burbank officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery.
A member of Weeden Heights United Methodist Church and the Teamsters Local 402, Sam worked as an Over the Road Truck Driver for 50 years using the CB Handle "Tomahawk". He also loved to travel and tell long stories to anyone who would listen, especially all of his mall walker friends.
Survivors include his children, Teresa Bourland (Jim), Jean McCreless, and Frances Springer all of Florence; grandchildren, Aundra Quinn (Chris) and Eric Bourland (Mandy), also of Florence; great-grandchildren, Courtney Quinn and Brooke Quinn of Florence, Kellie Martin of Albertville, Daniel Benefield, Dakota Benefield and Garrett Bourland of Florence; brother, Lloyd Baker of Muscle Shoals; sisters, Ellen Romans and Christine Berry of Tuscumbia; several nieces and nephews, and many two-legged and four-legged friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Elsie Pruitt Baker; parents, Walter J. and Enice Peden Baker; brothers, James J. Baker and Frank Baker; sister, Stella Lyell; and son-in-law, Dennis Springer.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Berry, Donnie Berry, Tony Baker, Chris Quinn, Ronald Inman, and Buck Puckett. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Pruitt, Leon Pruitt, Roy Knight, Hoyt Berry, Ricky Lyell, Nathan Lyell and Russell Romans
Special thanks are given to all the staff at Gentiva Home Health and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer''s research in memory of Sam and Elsie.
