OBITUARY SGT. BILLY THOMAS WEST
Sgt. Billy Thomas West, Age 77, of Rogersville, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 at ECM Hospital. Funeral services for Sgt. Billy West will be Monday, April 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel. Burial will follow in Barkley Cemetery at Blue Water with full Military Honors. Bro. T.R. Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday evening from 6-9 p.m.
Sgt. West was retired from the US Army, a custodian in the school system. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. Billy treasured the time he spent with his family and friends.
Sgt. West was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Thomas West and Velira Mae Pickle West.
Sgt. West is survived by his loving wife of 18 year, Peggy Baker West; children, Denise Brazda (Joe), Omaha, Nebraska, Ann Schlatterer (Gary), Hot Springs, Arkansas, Linda Cook (Terry), Warrenville, South Carolina, Johnny West, Springfield, Missouri , Gary West, Carrollton, Georgia; step-children, Christopher Lee Taylor, Rogersville, Rebecca Ann Taylor, Tuscumbia; a number of grandchildren and several great-grand children; special step-grandchild, Michael Drake "Fishbait" Grimes; step-grandchildren, Amber Jade Tennery, Justin Lee Tennery; brothers and sisters, Bertha Thompson (Herman), Huntsville, Al, Elizabeth Myrick, Philadelphia, Mississippi, James West, Omaha, Nebraska, Floyd West, Decatur, AL; Edward Lee West, El Dorado, Arkansas, and a number of nieces and nephews; close and special friends, Diane Hice, Rogersville, John and Dorothy Mefford, Rogersville, and Lilly-his long -haired Chichaua.
Pallbearers will be the Military. Honorary pallbearers will be family and friends.
Peggy and her family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Edsel P. Holden, the nurses of 5th West at ECM Hospital, Rose Lane, Judy Cobb and the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the loving care and kindnesses shown during Billy''s illness.
Expressions of sympathy may also be made in loving memory for Billy to the American Cancer Society.
