Sheilla Ann Shepard Blackwood
September 27, 1934 - May 29, 2020
On September 27, 1934 WC and Nettie Shepard of Marshall, Texas were blessed with a precious baby girl they named Sheilla Ann. Sheilla Ann spent her childhood in her hometown of Marshall and at 18 years of age she joined the Women's Army Corps and was stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
In 1958, Sheilla Ann met the love of her life, her soulmate, Robert Blackwood and they were wed in 1960 in Bryan, Texas. After living in Bryan for almost a year they migrated to Florence, AL seeking employment and Sheilla said it seemed a higher power led Robert into the funeral profession. They settled in a wonderful neighborhood surrounded by many preciousneighbors over the years. They also found their church home at Cypress Creek Methodist Church. Sheilla and Robert were blessed with many dear friends at Cypress Creek and they truly loved their church.
Florence seemed a good fit for them as they both loved fishing and camping. They were also avid Alabama Football fans (Roll Tide!) as well as lovers of the Atlanta Braves. After Robert's passing in 2012 Sheilla lost her passion for fishing but spent her time serving others, tending her flowers and lawn, and enjoying the various birds and squirrels that visited her many feeders.Sheilla Ann was described as "the last of a great generation we were lucky enough to have for role models."
Sheilla Ann passed peacefully to her heavenly reward in her home as she requested. She was preceded in death by her parents; WC and Nettie Shepard, husband; Robert, sisters; Olive "Peggy" Shepard, Edna Muriel Shepard, and Letha Jannett Shepard Stout, brothers; JW Shepard, Willis Shepard, and Douglas Shepard. Sheilla Ann was also dearly loved by all her extended family and friends too numerous to list.
