Mrs. Thelma Doris Staggs, 81, of Florence, passed away, Friday, October 16, 2009. Visitation will be at Elkins Funeral Home Monday evening from 6-8. The funeral will be Tuesday morning at 10 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Murphy''s Chapel Cemetery.
Mrs. Staggs is preceded in death by her husband, Dewey L. Staggs; parents, Claude and Edith Quertermous, brother, Howard Quertermous; sisters, Gracie Quertermous, Pearl Wilson, Violet Flowers, and Opal Jackson.
Doris was a devoted housewife and mother. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching baseball. She loved playing cards with her family, fishing, and reading her Bible. Mrs. Staggs was a resident of Lauderdale County for 28 years.
She is survived by her sons, Dewey E. Staggs, of Lomita, CA, Michael Staggs and wife, Sally, of Florence, AL, and Terry Staggs and wife Gail, of Columbia, CA; daughter, Brenda Wyzorowski and husband Norman, of Panama City Beach, FL; grandchildren, Elizabeth Staggs, Christine Staggs, Melissa Staggs, Justin Staggs, Jamie Gette, Meggen Wynn, Dewey L. Staggs, II, Veronica Staggs, Andrea Rinaudo and husband Brandon, and Nathan Wyzorowski; great grandchildren, Gavin Chambers, Tyler Wynn, Talford Wynn, and Teagan Wynn; brothers, Charlie "Shorty" Quertermous and wife Lucille, and Willard "Pop" Quertermous and wife Myrtle; sister, Christine "Cricket" Wells and husband Bill; numerous nieces and nephews, and the residents and staff of the Hilltop (Regency Villa) in Florence.
Her family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Dr. Felix Morris, Dr. Edsel Holden, and Bluewater Hospice for the care shown to Doris.
