Thomas Glenn Williams, age 72, of Florence, went to be with his Lord on Sunday October 11, 2009 at ECM Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be on Thursday October 15, 2009 at 11 am in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Tommy James, Mike Nash, and Matt Heupel will officiate. Burial will follow in Sheffield Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday October 14, 2009 from 6 pm until 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Lee and Margaret Elizabeth Williams; his brothers, Dalton Williams, Hobert Williams, and Virgil Williams; and his sister, Margrete Millinea Peck.
Mr. Williams was a retired Senior Master SGT with the United States Air Force. He was also retired from Reynolds Aluminum Reclamation Plant. Mr. Williams was a member of the American Legion and the Air Force Sergeant''s Association. He was involved in Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and delivering baskets to the hospitals. Mr. Williams was a van driver for his church and a member of the Traveling Grumpy Old Men Club and the Mexican Dominoes Train Gang. He was a carpenter and loved to travel.
Mr. Williams is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Williams; his daughters, Amy Butz and Gina Lyle; his son, Billy Williams; his sisters, Mary Christine Lindsey and Nellie Mae Judd; his grandchildren, T. J. Smith, Roshell Newton, Megan Butz, and Ross Butz; his great grandchildren, Dagan Smith, Malaki Smith, Alex Newton, and Cora Newton; and 18 nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, T. J. Smith, Ross Butz, and Corey Newton; and his nephews, Gayle Williams, Mark Williams, and Danny Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hudson, Doug Curtis, Wes Holly, Frog Bragwell, Billy Howard, and Glenn Gibson.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Dr. Patel, Dr. Daughtry, and the nurses of ECM 6th West.
