IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Trudie Lynne
Plunket
October 3, 1945 – January 15, 2025
Trudie Plunket dedicated her life to God, family and her students. A woman of deep faith, she wrote Sunday school curricula, taught numerous Bible studies, and spoke passionately about the love of God. She was also a teacher of English, journalism and a reading specialist and served as a high school tennis coach. She taught in Nashville, TN, Miami, FL, and Gainesville, Florida as well as in Spain, Italy, and Bahrain. She loved teaching and even in her final months of life encouraged and assisted her caregivers in their academic pursuits.
Trudie loved travel and made friends everywhere she went. After a week touring the kingdom of Jordan, she was invited into the homes of the Jordanian families she met and ended up with three penpals with whom she kept in contact for years. She had the gift of friendship and loved nothing more than sitting around table, eating and talking with friends and family.
Trudie died peacefully on January 15, 2025, at Mitchell-Hollingsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lamar and Chloe Plunket. She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Barnett, her brothers, Rodney (Margaret) and Joe Plunket, a niece and four nephews as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family is deeply thankful for the skillful care and kindness of the staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth. They went above and beyond their job descriptions as they tended to her. We are also very grateful for the three years of care and friendship she received at The Renaissance of Florence.
The visitation (3:00 PM) and celebration service (4:00 PM) will take place on January 25 at the Magnolia Church of Christ (2650 Vulcan Avenue, Florence). In lieu of flowers please donate to the Magnolia Church of Christ Soup Kitchen Fund or Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
