Uless Roden
Roden's celebration of life and funeral service will be Thursday morning at 10:30 June 19, 2008 in the chapel of Elkins Funeral Home. His family will receive friends Wendnesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., with Reverend's Mike Butler and Dennis Herron. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Park with Military Honors. Uless Roden,77, was born in Leighton, Al. to his late parents; Albert B. and Cynthia Moland Roden on June 21,1930. He passed away at his home with his family near him. He was raised on La Grange Mountain. He was the seventh of eleven children, and the youngest son. He was blessed to be married to his wonderful wife Jo, for 38 years. They celebrated their anniversary on th 12th of June. He was a mechanic by trade and faithful member of Rogers Chapel United Methodist Church for several years. He was a cook in the army and was a proud Army Veteran having served inthe Korean War. His hobby was working on a car, but his greatest sense of proud was his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling and visiting Gulf Shores, Florida and Nashville. He looked forward to Jo's famous chicken 'n' dumplings and crackling cornbread. He loved sitting in the swing on his front porch. He is preceded in death by his parents Albert B. and Cynthia Moland Roden, brothers; Houston, Nathan, Rufus, Grady and M.C. Roden, stister; Helen Roden Frost. Roden is survived by his wife, Helen Josephine "Jo" Butler Roden, daughters; Pam Roden Jones (Willie),Florence, Paula Crews (Joe),Tuscumbia, Melissa Hipps (Mike) Florence, sons; Johnny McDonald (Tammy)Florence, Pillip McDonald (Denise)Florence,daughter Janice Broad,Florida,sons;Williaqm Roden and Kenneth Roden,both of Florida;21 grandchildren. 32 great-grandchildren. Sisters; Hazel Smith,Berchie Broadford and Myrthle Toebe,brother,Layden Roden(Marilyn).Numerous Nieces and newphews aspecial family friend Nettie Mae Hobson and rat-terrier "baby" Pallbearers are Carl Roden,Lee Roden,Jeremy Mcdonald, Aaron Crunk, Lloyd Davis and Chris moore.Honorary pallbearers Dennis Wilson,Jerry Watkins,Steve Pruitt and Ronnie May. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to doctors;Felix Morris and Danny Martin,6th floor nurses at ECM Hospital,nurse, Sally for her loving kindness she showed to Roden.Expressions of sympathy may also be made in loving memory of Roden to to Rogers Chapel United Methodist Church or to the charity of one's choice.
