Funeral for Ulysses Millard "U.M." Rush, 81, of Somerville will be today, Dec. 1, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Manley and the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. Mr. Rush, who died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Breman, Ga., one of 13 children born to Charlie and Vera Rush. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He loved music, including playing guitar and harmonica and singing. U.M. and his wife, Correne, have been members of New Friendship Baptist Church for 40 years. He had an enormous love for family. He passed away at his home, as he wished, surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and many friends and neighbors. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Correne Crane Rush; six daughters, Jenny Maxwell, Irma Rush, Ellen Abbott (Al), Jean Cartee (Jerome), Debbie Watson (Johnny) and Bonnie Cunningham; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother; andthree sisters. Pallbearers will be Byron Hyatt, Phillip Hyatt, John Michael Watson, Ronald Goodwin, Tom Counts and Tim Laird. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley for their loving care and giving of their time, talents and compassionate hearts. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
