Velia Dot Tate, 81, of Florence died Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Glenwood Nursing and Rehab. Center. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 12:30-2 PM at Elkins East Chapel. Funeral Services will follow at 2 PM in the Chapel with Rev. David Mason and Rev. Keith Hawk officiating. Burial will be at Harvey Cemetery. She was a charter member of Whitehead Baptist Church Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Howard; parents, Rev. O.A. and Lillian Slaton; brothers, Ethridge and Arlin Slaton; sisters, Mary Phillips, Evelyn Brown, Iris McCarley, and Fay McCarley. She is survived by her husband, Loyce A. Tate; two daughters, Lois Greer (Joe) and Donna LeMay (David); son, Tim Howard (Rhonda); step children, David Tate (Sheila), Jane Jordan (Mike), Glenn Tate, and Robert Tate; sister, Francis Scogin (Bobby); two brothers, Mancil Slaton (Peggy) and Travis Slaton; sister in law, Theora Slaton; brother in law, Robert McCarley; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; one step great grandchild. Pallbearers will be Jarrod LeMay, James Greer, Kevin Belue, Shannon Lovvorn, Ben Tate, Troy McCarley, and Mark Slaton. Honorary pallbearers will be David Childers and David Brown.
