Mrs. Velma Stutts, of the Center Star community, passed away at the age of 90 on Saturday, January 2, 2010 with her family by her side.
The family will receive friends at Elkins East Chapel Funeral Home on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. The funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Bro. Ronny Jones and Bro. Ashley Pettus will officiate. Burial will follow in the Center Star Cemetery.
Mrs. Stutts life revolved around her family. She was a loving wife and caregiver to her husband Arvel, who died in 2004. She loved her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for them. As a homemaker, she enjoyed her flowers and put up vegetables from the garden most of her married life.
She was a Charter Member of the First Baptist Church of Center Star and was preceded in death by her son Bennett Stutts.
She is survived by daughters Joan Hammond and her husband Richard, Elgin, and Geneva Cox, Killen; daughter-in-law Martha Stutts; grandchildren Chris Stutts and wife Shelah, Melissa Brooks and husband Brad, Killen, Dennis Stutts and wife Kelly, Sabrina Tompkins and husband Christopher, Sheffield, and Courtney Ford and husband Eric, Florence. Great-grandchildren Haleigh and Hunter Stutts, Danyelle and Jessie Brooks, Harley and Madison Stutts, Abby Tompkins and Natalie Ford; sister Mary Thigpen, Greenhill.
Pallbearers will be Alton Shedd, Chris Stutts, Hunter Stutts, Dennis Stutts ,Harley Stutts and H.L. Stutts. Honorary pallbearers will be Edgar Griggs, and David Tate.
The family thanks Dr. Tim Ashley and Glenda Erwin, Dr. Robert Webb of the palliative care unit at ECM Hospital and Debbie O''Brien for their wonderful care.
